Why Your Leads Do Not Convert

The problem is rarely the ads. Three causes we find in almost every audit: a form that loses people, a response that comes too late, and targeting that attracts the wrong people.

When a client tells us "my ads bring in leads but nobody signs", we rarely look at the ads first. Nine times out of ten the problem is downstream — between the moment someone raises their hand and the moment you call them back.

Here are the three causes we find in almost every audit, in the order they do the most damage.

01 Your form is losing people

One field too many, an endless dropdown, a "Submit" button that confirms nothing: every point of friction costs you enquiries. We have seen nine-field forms where three would have done. The motivated visitor gives up, and you will never know — they appear nowhere in your statistics.

A three-field form converts almost twice as well as a seven-field one. Every field you add, you pay for in lost leads.

The rule is simple: ask only for what you need in order to call the person back. The rest gets collected on the phone, once they are already engaged.

02 You answer too late

A web lead has a lifespan measured in minutes, not days. Called back within five minutes, they remember you, they are still on the subject, they have not written to three competitors. Called back the next day, they have already moved on without you.

Most SMBs we audit take several hours on average to respond, either because nobody owns the follow-up or because leads land in an inbox nobody watches continuously.

To do
Set up an automatic follow-up the moment the form is submitted (email plus SMS), then a human call back as fast as possible. No lead should be waiting until the end of the day.

03 You are attracting the wrong people

Sometimes the form and the follow-up are flawless, but the leads are worthless because the targeting brings in browsers, price-shoppers, or people outside your service area. Plenty of enquiries, zero customers. That is the trap of treating "more leads" as the only goal.

Ten qualified enquiries beat a hundred clicks that will never sign. Good targeting filters upstream: geographic area, intent, implied budget. Your sales people stop wasting their time, and your cost per actual customer falls.

How to diagnose this in 15 minutes

Fill in your own form the way a customer would, and time how long it takes you to call back. Count the fields. Look at where your last ten enquiries came from and how many became customers. Those three measurements will tell you, with no complicated tooling, which of the three causes is costing you most.

And if you would rather we did it with you, that is exactly what we look at during the diagnostic call.
